7" VINYL EXCLUSIVELY INCLUDED WITH CRU SERVERS - EEL LP (ISLE013, 2022)
The two recordings on this 7" single were discovered on an old cassette tape during the peak lockdown summer of 2020 yet date back to 1986. Whilst rummaging through the CRU SERVERS family home garage, the no-wave anthem from a generation past 'Party Time' was excavated and managed to wriggle its way in to their mix for our 12th Isle x
Dublab.de day of broadcasting (
dublab.de/collections/12th-isle-takeover/).
Although both working at a now-defunct cable television station back in the mid 80s, Jonzip (father Cru) and George Cathro's CCV project was but a fleeting moment in time when our city was absorbing influences worldwide from synth-pop, new wave, dub/punk and the possibilities of new recording technologies. With Jon also in Passionate Friends and The Zips and George in The Revillos and Hey! Elastica, it perhaps makes sense that their dual project saw no proper physical releases back then. CCV stands as another example of how much interesting music of the past exists as fragmented memories, analogue photographs or hand-penned gig notes hiding at the bottom of storage boxes. Or, in this particular case, a forgotten C60 in just about good enough condition to revitalise and recommit for a global audience.
